St Stephen's Church

The Church of St Stephen the King in Kalocsa was built for the Jesuits by Archbishop Joseph Kunszt, to the design of the Viennese architect Karl Rösner.
The church is surrounded by the former convent and grammar school where the Jesuits taught from 1860 to 1948. After the nationalisation, the pastoral care is provided by the priests of the Archdiocese of Kalocsa-Kecskemét. One of its two feast days is on the feast of King St Stephen, the other on the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Since 1862, the Sacred Heart of Jesus has been a place of pilgrimage.
