Pilvax Hotel***Kalocsa
Kalocsa: Kalocsa is the capital of the County Bács-Kiskun. It is health, educational, cultural and economic center on the shore of River Danube.
History: When the town was founded, the construction works have begun on the hill under the today’s city. Only the top of the hill was not covered by moor. Several buildings in the downtown were owned by the church with a center of current Main Square. Here were the castle, the cathedral and the schools. It was the bishop’s center and the core of the city. People were allowed to build their houses along the main road. That is why the today’s downtown is so narrow and long. Its headquarters could be pedestrian zone.
Sights: Kalocsa has a significant history. It is a city since the conquest and one of the most important cultural centers of the Hungarians since the reign of Stephen the King. The city is one of the four Roman Catholic archbishop’s headquarters, the second center of the Hungarian Catholicism. Famous college town, since the 18th century it is one of the finest educational centers of Hungary. The most famous buildings are the main Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace and the astronomical observatory. The big downtown, the port and the steppes are worth visiting.
