The late Baroque-style former canon's palace opposite the Cathedral was built in 1779 under the archbishopric of Adam Patachich.

The museum is located in the historic city centre, next to the Trinity Square. An exhibition in the attic of the house tells the history of Hungarian paprika cultivation and shows the most important tools used in the process.

Lajos Gábor bequeathed the present museum building to the city in 1952. The house is about 200 years old and is a so-called "beach house", the first three rooms of which show the old peasant life in its original form, while in the former chamber there is a small exhibition on the development of folk art in Kalocsa.
